The buried grave was found of Robert Thomas and his wife Jane Ward Earp and some of their children.
This grave that was buried deep underground was uncovered in Warstone Lane Cemetery by Colin Giles and the Friends of Key Hill Cemetery & Warstone Lane Cemetery.
Robert Thomas was a Clerk with the Birmingham Canal Company, he would have been in charge of several employees.
Robert died just 11 days after his wife Jane in 1878.
Robert Thomas will soon be featured in a new book called: Galton House: History, Mystery, and Scandal by Rita Bailey and the Smethwick
Heritage Centre.
This private family grave inscription can now be read.
Sacred to the memory of Emily Jane daughter of Robert & Jane Ward Thomas who died December 23rd 1848 aged 3 years. Also Agnes Mary youngest daughter of of the above who died January 23rd 1860 aged 5 years & 6 months. And of Jane Ward Thomas who died June 20th 1878aged 65 years They were lovely and ---- in their ----- and in their death they will not divide. Also Robert Earp Thomas eldest son of of the above died February 12th 1880 aged 45 years. After life's fitful fever he sleeps ---- Also Clement Henry Thomas youngest son of the above who died April 27th 1898 age 46 years.
